Like the AT&T Blit or 5620. No 3D though.
I was thinking more along the lines of Vectrix (note: NOT Vectrex) graphics boxes. uPD7220 (I think) blitter. Accelerated line drawing. 3bpp or 12bpp colour depending on VRAM loadout. Operated entirely over an RS232 serial link. Manuals on @bitsavers, skeleton driver in MAME.

I never used the 5620, but one of our staff did. I remember it had the same processing power as the 3B2 it was connected to (over a 115kbps serial connection), but graphics and I/O was all it did. Will look up the vectrix.
