Hey @TechConnectify I remember a library that had a research system which was disc-based, but the discs never left their cases. The cases had sliding metal shutters, like oversized 3½ floppies or oversized minidiscs.
Was this a different technology or just different storage?

Probably just CD-ROMs with caddies. It's possible it was a different storage technology like ZipDisk or MO, but a lot of early CD-ROMs came in caddies that would sort of hide the nature of what lies within
The caddies tended to have a transparent window, so no hiding there. I'm interested in knowing details of how the system looked in operation. Caddies didn't have a standard mount to be operated in a carousel. So it still sounds like a custom solution in any event.
