hey is there an etymological reason or history for the proglangs that use `this` vs the ones that use `self` similar question, is there any `this`-lang that *requires* it to be an explicit item rather than an implicit, in signatures and/or statements?

i don't know if a language before smalltalk used it but my (also weak and ahistorical) guess is that languages that focus on message exchange favor `self` for the same reason. idk
