this is why I have a MiSTer and a Pi 4 and waiting to be put in an arcade cabinet, once I find/build one.
That's unfortunate. With a Pi 4 you're still going to be stuck with RetroPie and therefore the exact same license-violating, ancient-ass version of MAME.

I can compile sdlmame if I need to. -
That's great, but straight up, a Pi4 does not have the CPU juice needed for most arcade emulation unless you use an ancient, hacked-to-shit build of MAME that lacks the majority of the improvements that have gone in over the past 15 years.
