I can't help but think that @deviantollam and @SgtHowardPayne might have a bit to say about this fucking movie (Die Hard)
I mean, the office viewing of the movie hasn't even gotten to this point, but the part where McClane is on the 30th floor, then both elevators suddenly platform and subsequently explode - what the hell? There's no way that could or would plausibly happen.
Were there explosive devices in the cars? This isn't something that was ever shown in the movie. And even if there were, how did the terrorists even register a hall call at that point when they were more concerned with riddled with bullets by McClane?
There's a great deal that's highly unrealistic in all the Die Hard movies, and the elevators are no exception.
I'll still be watching this holiday season, though. 
Yeah, this whole thing only came up because it's the office tradition to watch Die Hard before our Christmas break, so we're having a group stream.
Die Hard 2 when McClane is able to open the top hatch from inside the car drives me nuts.
...and then he somehow proceeds from *atop* an elevator which was up in an airport tower but winds up down in a *basement* (You know, the massive basements and tunnel systems that airports have underneath their runways, because that helps them support the weight of jumbo jets.)
