Flat-screen TVs are the worst thing to ever happen to gaming. I used to be an expert at Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and other music/rhythm games. At NordicFuzzCon '19, when there was a system connected to an actual CRT, it was like nirvana. Not anymore. It's all laggy bullshit.

Both companies opted for a reboot after some years, and both failed abjectly. In late-stage capitalism, studio heads are not required to learn, so rather than the right call, they decided people just wanted the series taken in some radically new UX direction. They were wrong.

Harmonix had a clever solution for the lag issue anyway, they implemented a microphone and a photodiode so that Rock Band 3 (I think?) and onward could auto-calibrate. Guitar Hero never had such an option, though.
