I keep seeing this tweet about how hyper-independence is a sign of abuse. And I agree with it, but I'm not sure how to internalize it. I've been wanting to start a video series doing short docus on the history of various emulators, but I pretty much *have* to do it myself.

Same, even if I were to farm out other bits I want to see every part once to understand it, even if I don't want to do it again. These days I just feel so tired I can't bring myself to start.

Exactly this. And to an extent, it helps me understand where
@MameHaze is coming from. Yes, absolutely, more time can be spent on making flashier, better-edited videos. But then that eats into the time that can be spent on actually emulating things.1 vastaus 0 uudelleentwiittausta 0 tykkäystä -

My real problem is letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, and scope creep is making what I want to do look insurmountable and I don't start.

Same, to an extent. I've already envisioned the first episode as an introduction to the history of emulation in general, and an explanation of the basic principles, and have a mostly-completed script - but nobody's going to put up with a static image for 10 minutes.

So of course, I'm going to want some form of imagery, or diagrams when explaining concepts - but the only thing I know how to do that in is Adobe Flash, and fuck Adobe Flash. But I don't know of any other approachable, preferably free, vector-animation tools.

if you are good at using flash, just do it in that...no one watching the video will know or care what software you made the diagrams in anyways so flash's obsolescence won't matter.

Maybe, but it's more that I don't want to lay out a couple hundo a month just for that one entry in Adobe's suite.

oh I assumed you had a vintage copy of the software already. :D You would just have to learn blender to avoid giving adobe money I guess... why would the diagrams need to be vector anyway? video resolution is really low & you can't see much detail on small phone screens anyway?

Oh, it has little to do with the final product and everything to do with the workflow. I want to be able to zoom in for fine work and retain visual quality when doing so. Also because, again, I'm used to Adobe Flash (and to a lesser extent Illustrator).
