I've seen this misinterpreted too often as ego, not thinking anybody else is worthy etc. and only believing in myself, but it's not that at all. For a lot of the tasks I take on I'd consider myself to be far less suited than 95% of the rest of the team.

There's also the focus element. Switching between tasks is expensive for me, and while I do this a lot already, again it's about management. Look at the whole MAME/MESS merger, before I didn't do much for MESS because that focus shift to another application was too much.

I'm not going to say these aren't in some way character flaws, because they are, but they're things I've found ways to deal with that work to the level I need them to work. Pushing beyond them does quickly burn me out however.

In that case, I'm curious, what is it about clear-cut commit messages that is the draining factor? I'm not trying to call you out here, I just know that this has been a source of friction, and I'm wondering how the process might be streamlined to be more inclusive.

To an extent, I think Vas has very much the same issue as you and I do, but perhaps he's more reluctant to admit it. It seems like he wants to handle everything single-handedly, despite the overall negative effect it has on his psyche.

Probably. We've seen it a lot, and different people have different reasons. Outside of MAME it's often financial (not wanting to share a bounty) but within MAME reasons can be different. It can be an issue, one reason I encourage 'submit early, submit often' was to mitigate this.

I encourage the same - with how things went for Phil with the CMI IIx or Metal Maniax, it makes sense to have things included beyond a local drive. I had to reimplement a bunch of SA-1110 peripherals recently for similar reasons, due to being stuck on my work PC for remote work.

With MAME, we all have our flaws, irritate each other in little ways, there's tension, and sometimes it does boil over, but we get something out the door. The lack of assistance, or even acknowledgement on the multichannel audio thing is a personal bugbear right now for example.
