How's it going? I really want to know.

Exhausted but satisfied. We recently hired a new UI artist/UX designer who, to me, has been like a jug of water to a person stranded in the desert. I'm so stoked to be getting shipping-quality reference concepts I worked 9-5 yesterday, then 9-5 yesternight...

This year has been, well... an interesting ride. I could happily do several tweets in a thread off of this one to give context, or if you'd prefer I not crud up your replies I could DM you, or I can just go about my day if it's not your jam, no worries

It started when our existing UI artist/UX designer abruptly passed away in April. I still miss her terribly. She was a lightning bolt of positivity, passion, and skill for UI. It was my first experience with losing someone close, even just professionally. I miss you,

Thus began what I call "the dark times". I promptly fell off the wagon. We piled more work on one of our already-task-loaded concept artists to compensate. Who himself is an amazing concept artist, but very much not a UI/UX person.

When the concept artist in question was unavailable, I tried to make do with hastily-assembled concepts made by eitehr our lead designer or our CEO, but the resulting concepts left a lot to the imagination, not the "here's what it'll look like in-game" I was used to.

The first week of November marked the official start date of our new UI artist/UX designer, and I couldn't be happier. The dude is amazing, his concepts are on point, I feel the passion I once had finally starting to replace the depression.

Problem is, for me, when I'm really excited about something, I can't *not* work on it. It's like giving a desert-stranded person a 5L jug of water, they're probably going to gulp down so much that they barf it up.

As such, past few days, I've been pulling ridiculous hours just out of the sheer joy of being able to have concepts that I can really connect with, visually. Probably not healthy, and admittedly exhausting, but I couldn't be happier.
