That's the last edition of the VCS, note the streamlined case. The 2600 was on the market until 1992(!). I would peg that ad as being from late 1988.
2600. Play the (numerous) good games for a few years. Gradually sell off the rare ones to get enough scratch to buy a NES and some of the better games.
