I seem to remember a convo I had with Stephen back when he had it joking that if the HDD wasn’t the size of a car and we could find a replacement chassis, a clean room recovery company could swap over the platters. A lot has happened on Walton’s Mountain since then. Lol

It wasn't specified. Given the rather unique disk format, probably raw track data. TBH the drive is less important to me as i know i don't need it to boot the PB and it's not going to hold some lost footage of DrWho or anything, more likely just some old news slides or graphics.

That's true. Once we learned that it's pretty much just still images on the drives anyway, and that the DPB was apparently from the news room, it's not too likely to have anything super interesting on there. Obviously I would have loved to see the data anyway, but yeah.

I am still keeping it safe, *IF* i do get the PB running, i can connect the HDD and see if anything happens.

Honestly, talk to Ash. Based on the signal protocol that the Paintbox's disc controller uses it should be relatively straightforward to just step through each head on each cylinder and crap the bytes out into an SD card or something similar.
