Let’s say you hire someone who is talented, but most of their recent career is short stints due to projects being canceled and companies going under. They become a valuable part of your team but treat new hires as a active threat to their job security. How would you handle this?
I can envision many ways it might come about. Was the employee overly critical of new hires' code? Did the employee subtly reject the new hires in social situations? Was the employee open about how they felt to anyone, or did they try to hide it while engaging in this behavior?

In all cases, it's not acceptable behavior on the employee's part, and must be dealt with in order to maintain a harmonious working relationship between all involved. But understanding the psychological underpinnings of these interactions is important to find the ideal solution.
