Some look really good but others like this lack of contrast, I hope there's still time to improve the visuals!
I was about to ask if maybe the lack of contrast was sticking to the 18-bit VGA palette. But then I remembered Hocus Pocus, also published by @ApogeeSoftware, which had seriously stand-out visuals. I wonder if it's just a desire to preserve the existing art direction.

What weirds me out more than the player character is the choice of a maroon palette entry for the shadowed sides of the barrels to the left of the playfield. There should be plenty of gray palette entries to go around.
