Since moving to Sweden six years ago, I've found myself using Swedish more than English when it comes to interjection-based swearing. Particularly because most Swedish swearing involves either blasphemy or genitals, which seems so much more creative to my American mind.

There's something rather wonderful about some good, guttural Norse swearing. It's why the rudest words in English are Anglo Saxon. Arse! Twat! (BTW - I know twatten is the Swedish verb to wash, so I'd love to see the etymology there!)

I'm rather sorry to disappoint, but the Swedish verb "to wash" is in fact "tvätta". Subtly different, but not pronounced quite the same as the word you're thinking of. ;)
