One of the things I really love about how the Quantel DPB-7001 "Paintbox" treats disks is how it could be a case study in how to responsibly not care about data integrity.
Thanks for the wealth of info! What I meant, though, was what sorts of digital VTRs were available in 1981 when the DPB-7001 came out?

i dont think there was any, the earliest i know of is Quantel's Harry using hard disks and the Sony D1 tape, both were 1986 IIRC

The BBC had their hard drive based Animation Store, and the BBC and IBA had in-house test bed DVTRs as proofs of concept I think before that.

There were no commercial DVTRs around in 1981. Ad
@DextersTechLab says - the D1 VTRs in 1986 were the first commercial models c.1986/7, but they did have some error correction and then concealment I think. Prior to the D1 the BBC and IBA (and I'm sure NHK) had prototypes DVTRs.Kiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa
