I assume this involves some LD contraption attached to the machine, so the compute power has to come to you?
I guess what I'm getting at is that if there were some random hyper-rich donor who wanted to see Laserdisc games get into MAME at a less than glacial pace, my DMs are open for speccing out a system, but as far as I can tell such a person does not exist.

To an extent. It's a matter of being able to both acquire the relevant LDS/LDF files as well as be capable of processing them. Since LDS/LDF files contain copyrighted material, they can't be shared, and need to be processed locally.

You don’t need a hyper rich person if you need less than $1K. You need a ~dozen people to throw you $50. Set up a patreon.

Less than 1K isn't going to fund a build with the number of cores needed to efficiently process LD captures. I also already have a Patreon, with the stated goal of putting all contributions towards the Dumping Union.
