A machine that'd be less than what they make in a month, and would let me go through LDF captures with 32 cores instead of 4 and a VM. But no. They "need" that money to make auto-translation that gives the Vietnamese Pokémon Crystal bootleg's "drug bag fuck" a run for its money.
I think it’s against the MAME ethos, but surely the community could raise $1K for a guy that been contributing to open source emulation for a decade.
I totally understand your frustration and where it's coming from. It's 100% justified. But also, if you contact them, they may actually be very willing to help you make that happen or help contribute in some way.
They get alarmingly hinky if you so much as ask why they need a couple more grand to "secure their build bot" (paraphrasing), let alone ask them to actually account for where their Patreon funds go. They're not interested in using that money for anything other than themselves.
