Why do Laserdiscs feel futuristic to me, even though they were (at best) super-niche when I was young and I never saw them?
They were different. They were *analog* optical media. Seriously. Everything else encodes data based on the pattern of pits and lands. Laserdiscs encode data based on the lengths of the pits and lands to form a raw RF signal.

@TechConnectify did a great series on them, I think it's just because I knew *of* them but never *saw* them they kept this weird allure, though I did see Hollosseum at one arcade with rare stuff I didn't realise until later. Also 'laser' being right in the name made them cooler

Perhaps so... I just wonder if and when
@TechConnectify will want to do a follow-up video on the ld-decode work done by@happysphere, @simoninns,@IanSmallshire and the like :)
