That's not how it works. Just because you have 8 DEXEDs or FM8s in your DAW, doesn't mean someone would have had to have 8 DX7s, rather, they would have had to record one DX7 8 times onto ADAT tape. (Actually they'd stop at 7, leave one for bounce).
Sure, but my point is that they more than likely wouldn't have done that at the time, as modern Synthwave is simply self-indulgent - in a good way, of course, but it's just not realistic to the era is all.
