I think it comes down to FPGA purists that act like everything's perfect and look down upon software emulation, so people buy MiSTers and then wonder why everything's not perfect when that's exactly what it's supposed to be.
Seems like there are a lotta people upset at the idea that FPGAs are not imbued with magic fairy crystals that somehow make FPGA-based emulation inherently more accurate than software emulation, and that it all comes down to the effort spent. Also a lotta people who can't read

It's good to see a vibrant FPGA scene and have options, but there is a misconception that FPGA > software emulation in all cases. I suspect the Patreon money involved doesn't always lead to transparency either. Many implementations rely on the former research of MAME devs ofc.

I feel like FPGA is the logical endgame, but it's almost certainly going to be built on the backs of the literal decades of work done by software emulation programmers and reverse engineering experts, and it'll never supplant software-based emulation.
