Suppose I want a portable abstraction layer for the OS-specific shit of game-making: Input, file I/O, managing a fixed-size window, buffered audio output, and getting a handle to the window so that I can use whatever rendering backend. C++. What are my options?
No offense, but I got as far as "Why C" and "WebAssembly is a 'first-class citizen'" and closed the window. I'm a fan of disability advocacy too, but I'm not going to saw off my own legs in order to prove a point.

I'm after something that's more broadly similar to SDL2, but without the need for all the statics and void pointer casting that comes with using a C API in C++.

Incidentally, to clarify my take on wasm: it implies WebGL, which is an inherently limiting subset of GLSL. I'd rather keep my options open, than slam the door on high-tech shaders.

Yeah, that’s fair… It’s neat for what it is (and way better than anything we had before for the runs-in-a-browser use case), but I do hope it becomes more powerful eventually
