Has The GIMP gotten any more usable in the past 10-15 years? I remember trying it out circa 2004/5 or so and it was a UX nightmare.

I use unFREEze for that, just needs each frame to be a non-animated .gif first It's just drag and drop the files in order and convert, with settings for how fast to switch frames and such

ffmpeg is very good at letting you nail a bunch of frames together, but I'm hazy on how good its gif output is, might need an intermediate vid then go from there.

It's not too bad. It also lets you do things like crush the palette nicely (e.g. pick the frame that has all the colours you *really* want, and use that for the palette).
