3/ Unfortunately, the CDIC most likely includes a gate array and some other things for which documentation is entirely nonexistent. Worse still, the average emulator-writing solution of "throw different games at it, see how they interact with it differently" doesn't apply.
4/ The CD-i accomplished something that only the advent of the Xbox 360 and PS3 brought back again: A base spec, with all published titles hitting the hardware through documented OS calls. Different models of CD-i players vary wildly in the underlying hardware.
5/ The result is that you can throw all the games you want at your emulator, you're still only going to be seeing one set of access patterns. Even worse, the OS typically wedges itself a few CDIC accesses *after* something it doesn't like, making diagnosis difficult.
