This recent auction thing gives me really good vibes. A Video Game History Foundation rep and an Internet Archive rep teaming together to signal-boost a funding drive so that the MAME team and Gaming Alexandria folks can preserve stuff. That's pretty awesome.
You'd not have seen this level of cooperation among teams even 10-15 years ago. That just tells me that video game history preservation is finally being taken seriously, and that's something I've hoped for for years while working on MAME.
Question, is there such a thing as a preservation auction task force? Like a central place to get information about this, and to be asked to participate where needed
There isn't; until recently it's been a bunch of separate actors all working within their own spheres. As far as I'm aware, this is one of the first time several powerhouses have joined forces to ensure certain things didn't get lost. If you'd like, I can expound further via DM.
