Not in the c.1981 Paintbox. There was a Transputer in one of the warp boards in the Henry/Editbox. The QIFDC for Editbox had a 386SX PC stuck on top of a 3.5" FDD. (I helped build that)

2/ We also know that a track ends with that same value after de-MFMing. We also live in a day and age with cheap 32-bit microcontrollers that have USB interfaces, and can run C code, and with performance that blows a Disk Sequencer Card with an Am2910 out of the water.

Realistically what it needs is someone with both the necessary drive to sling the cartridge into, and both the hardware and software smarts to whip up a microcontroller-based solution to just step from cylinder to cylinder and head to head, dumping out the bistream.
