Sega for me. Although now it’s pretty clear Nintendo were way ahead of the game.

Making graphics for the Sega Genesis/Megadrive was a pain - it had a crazy palette that someone with a better understanding of the memory addressing can explain. Super Famicom/SNES was easier to deal with and Amiga the easiest of all!

Amega would have been my first choice TBH.

The Amiga was the work horse for creating graphics for games on all platforms in the early 90s, mostly because of the excellent Deluxe Paint software from Electronic Arts - we could then export the graphics made on the Amiga across to whatever platform we were working for.

Always wanted one of those, but never got my hands on one - made the jump to SGI/Quantel from games in the early 90s. Loved early Babylon 5!

I think Dexter’s Lab ended up with the BBC’s Weather / Tripods original Paintbox DPB-7001. I think
@AshEvans81 had built a replacement hard disk controller as the Paintbox won’t boot fully given the fonts are on the hard disk. It gone quiet for a while.3 vastausta 0 uudelleentwiittausta 3 tykkäystä -
Yep, the old BBC Paintbox is still around. Sadly, the big Fujitsu HDD is poorly, so I don't know what will happen with that atm. The DPB and HDD are both with
@DextersTechLab@TheMogMiner is making great progress on a DPB emulator for MAME, so that will be a big help.2 vastausta 0 uudelleentwiittausta 3 tykkäystä -

1/ There's a subtle (but important) difference between the "Text Brush" and a font from the DPB firmware's perspective. The Text Brush is contained on the Brush Master Disk and is used to draw text in the menu bar. Fonts are required to draw text, but not to boot.

2/ Per the screenshot posted yesterday, the DPB'll complain about a lack of fonts on any online discs, but will still report itself as ready for use. If it lacks the Text Brush, it won't. The black bars on the buttons are due to a lack of Filter Card or Size Card emulation yet.pic.twitter.com/MjGA3ELmml

3/ I'm also not emulating the Combiner Card yet, so for the time being I'm just shoving the contents of the two Frame Store stacks next to the terminal monitor, and the contents of the Brush Store card in the lower-left of Store I. :)
