Just a standard brush with a random weighting. Different random for each of the 64 interpolations, so you sort of didn’t know what you were going to get. Will send an email about file system - too much coming back for twitter.

I suspect that that would explain the "? no typeface found on online disks" error that gets cranked out during boot, rather than simply the expected complaint of all brushes being missing. Sounds like my next port of call is going to be to wire up the FDD.

Typefaces were different from the text brush. They came later and had a whole load of typography stuff, kerning tables etc. The text brush was pretty simple.

"New Text Brush ( Version III release 1-Mar-84 CAW )" I don't suppose you were CAW, were you?

Not I. Someone's initials, but nobody comes to mind. I didn't have anything to do with the actual painting, just low level stuff. But we were all in one lab.

Fair dos, in that case, I could use some advice on some odd access patterns I'm seeing when the boot monitor is searching for fonts and brushes. More info in reply.

It first seeks to Cylinder 1 (as opposed to Cylinder 0), then issues what i'm assuming is a Read command, then loops presetting the RAM address on the Disc Data Buffer Card up by 0x10 each loop, reading the first two bytes. So it reads RAM buffer addr 0x10, 0x11, 0x20, 0x21, etc.

There was a very crude directory at the start. I could believe that it it was 16 bytes per entry, and the first two were a file type. So it is searching for a file of type “Text Brush”. Other entries would be start and length. Can’t recall why cylinder 0 not used.

Seems to be exactly as you describe. It works-ish. Now I just need to figure out what command 6 and command 4 to the Disk Sequencer Card are supposed to do. I suspect they're some sort of read-to-Brush-Store command, do you recall anything more specific than that?

Looks like Command 6 is "initiate disc transfer to brush store", Command 4 is "continue disc transfer to brush store".
Lataaminen näyttää kestävän hetken.
