Realtalk: As an avid player of the original Animal Crossing (we don't talk about Doubutsu No Mori) to the point that I cracked the trade code algorithm back in 2002/3 (I forget which), Nintendo have batted New Horizons out of the park and into the next bloody state.
It's got enough new features that it feels fresh. Tons of corny jokes about bugs and fish, same as always. Nods to the series's history enough to tickle longtime players while not being heavy-handed about it. To top it off, Nintendo have been responding to fan complaints.
I've spoken to as many new players who adore it as veterans of the game. It richly deserves its wild reviews and I for one couldn't be happier. It's the best 60 EUR I've spent on my Switch to date.
