Shit, dude, that's some savage commentary. Obviously I'm not in a position to disagree, but is it really that ingrained in the culture? Seems kind of discourteous, for lack of a better word (I know there is one, I just can't think of it).

Yes it is. It's basically a gigantic "fuck everyone as long as I get mine" way of thinking. We have a saying: "A Mexican's worst enemy is another Mexican." It sucks and I really hate it.
