I just saw that we've recently surpassed over 5000 pull requests submitted to the MAME repo on Github. By some back-of-the-envelope math, that works out to roughly 800-1000 PRs annually. The old emulation meme is still true: Rumors of MAME's death are greatly exaggerated.

That's been a emulation community meme for what, fifteen years? Things slowed down a bit on the arcade front for awhile, and people started claiming the sky was falling.
This, exactly. I don't think it's ever been said with very much seriousness, but anytime people see an extended lack of attention to their own personal bugbears in favor of attention towards other peoples' personal bugbears, folks holler a bit.
