Now, years on, I feel at partially vindicated. Now that he's started openly turning into an alt-right mouthpiece, going on about how he'd "rather be a fascist dick than a trans vagina", people have at least somewhat started to clock that hey, maybe this guy is broken.

People ask "What happened?" Well, nothing happened, he's the same person he's always been. Most of the good things that Minecraft is associated with had nothing to do with him. The Block-By-Block UN effort? Lydia and Vu's idea. Community outreach? Owen.

At the end of the day, the impression that people have about Markus's involvement in Minecraft is illusory. The most positive aspects of the project are down to other team members who wanted to leverage the company's position to do some real good in the world.

I mean, he created the foundations of an awesome game, but that's an achievement that has nothing to do with character and whether he's a dick or not.

Lots of people have created the foundations of awesome games but have somehow managed not to be misogynist, transphobic, dicks. But by all means continue to worship at his feet.

I think I didn't make myself clear. I have no intention to worship as his feet. He's a misogynist, transphobic, elitist dick. These character traits ultimaltely prevent me from respecting him for his professional achievements.

But these achievements continue to exist. There's no point in denying them, they're simply irrelevant as to whether he's a good person.

I see him as a prime example for "even people who created awesome things can still be dicks". I think denying that he created awesome things detracts from that life lesson.
