PSA: If your FPGA-based emulator is just based on observation, then unless it exactly replicates all the quirks of the original hardware, it is no more accurate than a software emulator, it's just inaccurate faster

The USB converter adds lag, bsnes adds lag, and the PC video driver adds lag. Compare an NES tech demo that reacts within less than 1 ms to a press of the A button. I doubt that a USB to Game Link converter could successfully handshake to an authentic Game Boy, because lag.

That was the hidden hint in my question. We need better definitions. Separate PC emus from hardware (bare metal) emus. USB vs parallel controllers, etc.
