PSA: If your FPGA-based emulator is just based on observation, then unless it exactly replicates all the quirks of the original hardware, it is no more accurate than a software emulator, it's just inaccurate faster

Is this in response to the new
@analogue pocket? Genuine question. I don't know much about FPGA or software emulators, so I'm kinda lost. Is this a good or bad thing?
The @analogue pocket is one of the few FPGA-based systems that gets its emulation right: Kevin "kevtris" Horton compares the I/O signals of his FPGA emulation against real hardware. It's as close to real hardware as you can get. My gripe is with most of the other also-rans.

Good info, thank you. I have the Nt mini, and it is pretty righteous. I figured this would meet the standard. Looks like I might be emptying my wallet again in 2020. And, I promise I'll do my research next time.

Analogue describes their Pocket Boy as "not emulation based" on the product page. That annoyed me to no end.

They're not entirely wrong. If their FPGA reimplementations have the Kevtris Seal of Approval™, then they're most likely indistinguishable from real hardware in that you could wire up the FPGA as a replacement. Again, my gripe isn't with Analogue for the most part.
