I'm slightly nervous about sending a MAME PR only because of how big the scope of the program is and how useless the feature I need seems, exactly like emulating the 10NES. But the PR would make MAME more accurate to the hardware, so idk.
As the ancient Klingon proverb states, "Go for it - connect four!" What's the feature? I can help give advice before you send in a PR, but I would just send in the PR anyway. If it's more accurate to the hardware and doesn't break anything, no reason to reject it.

The addition of DIP switches to the Model2 games. There is no feature changes listed in any of the game's manuals, however, it has been discovered in Sonic the Fighters with the correct debug bits flipped the switches can enable things such as a debug display.pic.twitter.com/pSbtod3pvn
