I love this thread but you're overlooking the fact that MAME emulates the necessary Sharp microcontrollers to make this happen, MAME already emulates split NES ROMs via softlists, and pull requests are a thing. It would amount to code LEGO at this point to accomplish it.
It's getting old being one of the few MAME developers on Twitter, responding to a wall of people going "WHY DON'T EMULATORS DO-" with "Well, we do that, and our PRs are open."

I'm slightly nervous about sending a MAME PR only because of how big the scope of the program is and how useless the feature I need seems, exactly like emulating the 10NES. But the PR would make MAME more accurate to the hardware, so idk.

As the ancient Klingon proverb states, "Go for it - connect four!" What's the feature? I can help give advice before you send in a PR, but I would just send in the PR anyway. If it's more accurate to the hardware and doesn't break anything, no reason to reject it.
