What was the first R-rated movie you ever saw in theaters? Mine was THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. I was 11 at the time so I lied to my mom and told her my friend and I were seeing BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. She never found out until I told her years later.
There was honestly a lot of that kind of paranoia in my upbringing. The idea that she couldn't take me anywhere in public on a day that she was out sick, because companies apparently literally have people watching their workers to make sure they're actually sick.

Since I know that even to this day, with me age 34, she tends to track what I do online: Mom, you can't deny that either of these things happened. You might not remember it, but I do.

As an aside, the thing that baffled me was she was perfectly fine with me downloading R-rated movies and watching them in the privacy of our own home. It was all about the nonexistent threat of public perception.
