The Internet is such a skewed place, riddled with double standards. Everyone is expected to share the good times with all and sundry, but when you're in pain and deeply hurting, you're expected to just shut up and not tell a soul; there's no place for you.

I have come to cherish one on one communication with people that actually, deeply know me or are sincerely interested in getting to know me and I've realized that, in the end, social networks have pushed us away from that "model" of communication.
I would argue that it depends on who you really seek out as contacts on places like Twitter. Out of the thousands who follow me, most are most likely bots, or kids who followed me during the Mojang days and never got around to unfollowing. However... (cont'd)

(continuing) I greatly enjoy Twitter's utility for holding conversations, and generally being in contact with fellow retro-gaming enthusiasts, graphics folks, and other people that generally overlap in the Venn diagram of my interests - and I cherish each and every one.

Oh absolutely! I agree 100% on this approach. And, with all that I said, I am still a "different strokes for different folks" kind of person. If anyone actually feels better by sharing important moments, good or bad, on social media, hey, that's great.
