Man, you got this running fast. :o Took me ages to figure out how to even get the serial terminal hooked up within the MAME driver (a long time ago). lol Thanks for working on this. ;)
Happy to be working on it! FWIW, MAME's internal APIs have gotten a lot cleaner since you last looked at it, so it's a lot easier to piece things together like LEGO.

I still have a lot of trouble with the MAME code. Ever since it started making the transition from pure C to C++ years ago, I find it tough to find each function, or wrap my brain around some of the macros. I managed to hook up the MAME driver for 32x to an FTDI chip, though.

I spent about three days trying to figure out how the PS1 driver does the vertex sorting, and I still don't quite know how it works. lol
