Machine's about 1996 vintage, and I'm not sure. I haven't touched it since like '10 or so.
For what it's worth, SGI did do this. However, the Indy is pretty unique in that it allows you to force a MAC address from the boot PROM: "setenv -f eaddr 08:00:69:xx:yy:zz" where XX/YY/ZZ are whatever you want is necessary to be able to install IRIX with a new default NVRAM.

Once I do excavate that old machine, getting hardware's gonna prove interesting. It has only narrow SCSI, though I could go iSCSI for storage for later stuff (just not IRIX, tho).

Though restoring my MAC address might prove easier as I have an old TFTP setup tarred somewhere I used to install Debian all those years ago.
