As far as weekends go, repeatedly spending 45 minutes installing IRIX 5.3 and IRIX 6.2 on an emulated SGI Indy at 10-20% speed in order to track down a CPU bug causing inst's kernel link to fail was not how I planned to spend mine, but I can think of worse ways to spend it.

To that end, with a contributor's rewritten but not yet pushed R4000 core, IRIX 5.3 and 6.2 can be installed on an emulated Indy with a Newport graphics board, but something goes awry during installation: Portions of /usr/lib are just not there, so kernel linking fails.

Sounds like huge progress thus far. I haven’t booted any of my SGIs in years but I recall interesting process of parts compiled from C and linked in with some binaries to build new kernel at each boot to adapt for SMP/arch changes.
