I didn't say he did it on purpose. A consequence of having an audience, especially an audience driven by your own strongly held opinions, means that even retweeting something, especially without adding context, carries consequences. This is a cost of that audience.
I agree, but if him pointing out that he even donated to these folks doesn't provide enough context to ward off attacks by followers, I'm not sure even a handwritten note wrapped around a brick flying through a window at Mach 20 would give enough context to dissuade idiots.

Fair. And good on you for not using the word responsibility, but instead going with consequences. Because it is indeed an unfortunate consequence. Not that I'd know, I suspect at this point about 39k of my followers are bots.
