picross s2 is another weak entry into the series. 
it's frustrating knowing that the snes np games were a lot better difficulty/aesthetic-wise, but the new games are just so bad

This. Either I absolutely scream through the puzzle (99% of them) or it lacks enough info to complete without guessing. If you want actual well-made nonogram puzzles, check out the website for Griddlers (NB: not affiliated with them, just been registered there since 2006).

Pictopix on Steam is excellent, and I've had a fair bit of fun with CrossMe on Android - later puzzles get a bit frustrating on a small device, though
