The NeWs Display Postscript system ran as part of the X server within OpenWindows (Xnews). It's a standard part of the installation. The additional NeWs printing system came separately with the Sun laserprinter which used the workstation as the rendering engine.

There was a Usenet newsgroup called http://comp.windows.news that consisted of... 1. Occasional posts about Microsoft Windows operating system 2. 100 replies to each of these posts saying this newsgroup was about the Sun NeWS windowing system ...and absolutely nothing else!
