This is absolutely infuriating, and I'm a liberal who's fond of firearms. Amazon might have every right to do so, but that doesn't make it any less heavy-handed and wrong. Information should not be censored at the whims of whatever tech bro has the most money this week.

It is a US tradition to entrust censorship to unaccountable private parties. What else is new?

Whataboutism is an ugly thing. The fact that it's been happening for years doesn't make it any more right.

For longer than you've been alive. CCA, MPAA, ESRB, ring a bell? And in any case, it's strictly equivalent to Sega/Sony/Microsoft/Apple controlling what can get on "their" consoles/phones.

Man, that's a crap argument and you know it. If Amazon presented themselves as a marketplace with significantly restrictive regulations on what can be listed, like all of the above openly admit, then it would be different. But they don't.

What I find particularly galling about it is the fact that Amazon has no end of Chinese knockoffs, bootleg garbage, and other illicit wares, and yet this - THIS - is the hill they choose to die on. That's fundamentally messed up.

It’s not messed up. They are a corporation that made a business decision based on the political landscape as they perceive it. Makes sense. Most likely, many more people would be pissed about them selling the book than not.
