MAME 0.201 is coming out in less than a week, and it occurs to me that there's a *lot* of audio improvements going into it, thanks to the efforts of the excellent superctr, cam900, and ValleyBell.

Wait wait wait... MAME emulates the Akai MPC series?!
It's being worked on, yup! It turns out the MPC3000 uses almost identical audio hardware to the Taito G-Net arcade board. The floppy controller has some spotty documentation, so it's not fully bootable yet, but it does get chatty with the LCD controller.pic.twitter.com/bd0dhzrG01

Incidentally, this isn't even Taito's first foray into deriving sound hardware for their arcade boards from pro-gear-spec synths. The audio hardware on the Taito F3 board, for example, is almost identical, right down to the memory map, with the Ensoniq SD-1.

Fascinating, thank you! Ensoniq was Bob Yannes, so it makes sense that he (of SID fame) was making chips designed for both synths / samplers and computers / arcade machines. Like Yamaha using chips in DX synths and Sega's machines. But the MPC... That's really unexpected!
