Uh... I think I feel at least somewhat similar to you with that, probably with the exception of that my mom does understand it

Voice conversations can be very difficult! Would you be more comfortable with instant messenger?
-
Very much so! I find it far easier to communicate in text. The weird thing is that people keep telling me that I have a great voice for broadcasting/voiceover work, and I *do* love the chance to show it off, but the actual act of conversing is draining.

I feel like it's the act of being put on the spot, so to speak, that stresses me out. I have no problems speaking, and for the most part I've ironed out any speech-processing issues that I used to have, but I prefer the *time* that text gives me to construct my thoughts.

Yes, this! If it's something business-like where there's a clear beginning and end to the conversation that I can predict beforehand, it's nowhere near as stressful as a meandering conversation with family, where just about any topic can come up at any time.

My mom and I e-mail each other fairly regularly - but of course, she's my mom, and I can't blame her for wanting to hear the voice of her only child from time to time.

#ActuallyAutistic plus auditory processing disorder- I prefer written communication -
Me too. My health care provider prefers body language though, even over actual words. Written communication is literally ignored.
