Not even gonna lie, it's a colossal pain, and you'll probably see code dating back to 10+ years ago that makes you want to throw large, heavy rocks at the author. And also a largely thankless task. I'm honestly not even sure why I'm doing it. I just like clean code, I guess.

But if you're the sort of person who thinks clean code is its own reward, holy moly does it feel good to see the find-in-files count for "machine().device" gradually trend downward.

I spent much of my 20+ years in the corporate trenches doing similar maintenance....seeing the Bad Things dwindling does hit a nice place in the brain-pan
