My home in SF was burglarized — I was a moderate independent then and I still am. But I know it’s not a “quality of life crime” like @chesaboudin says. It’s traumatic and violating and I never felt safe again. You never forget the feeling of having your private space violated, we were robbed twice while on our honeymoon, and once as we were returning home from a trip (thieves were still in house as wife entered, they left through back door).
