I was running these plots for *12 hour* temperature drops yesterday and now realizing that was too long a timescale. The temperature crash going to happen much faster than that. WOW! cc

The most recent GFS is suggesting a 3-hour temperature drop of 31° F at Newark Airport on Friday with arctic front and possible flash freeze. This would be close to a record - the largest 3-hour temperature drop on record at Newark is 33° F (Sep 1989, Jan 2000).

We just talked about the latest #Artemis photos & I *tried* to summarize the great Carl Sagan's "A Pale Blue Dot" -failed miserably. Here it is. A worthy read 💗🌎 via planetary.org/worlds/pale-bl

Earthset. 🌎 @NASA_Orion captured this shot of Earth “setting” while the spacecraft passed close to the Moon. Nearly 270,000 miles (430,000 km) away, #Artemis I will soon surpass Apollo 13’s record-setting distance from Earth in a spacecraft designed to carry astronauts.
The Orion spacecraft captures an image of Earth setting behind the Moon. The metallic grey and white structure of the spacecraft dominates the left side of the image. To the far right, the dusty grey surface of the Moon looms large beside the small blue and white Earth in the far distance. The background of the image is the dark blackness of space. No stars are visible as the high contrast of the Moon and Orion spacecraft wash out the distant stars. Credit: NASA

A few things about surge: you'll have wave action on top of these levels. And at these numbers, with FL's topography, you'll have salt water pushed miles inland in spots. #HurricaneIan

We can't contain the excitement for @NASAWebb's first full-color images! On Monday, July 11 at 5pm ET (21:00 UTC), President Biden will unveil one of the space telescope's first images of deep space as a preview of what's ahead: go.nasa.gov/3NUQ8Dx
The Webb telescope's primary mirror is inside a facility laying on its side, with engineers in white protective suits. The mirror's two wings that give it its honeycomb shape are not deployed in this image. Its secondary mirror, held by a long boom, is deployed in front of the primary mirror. The primary mirror is made up of multiple hexagonal mirrors assembled into one shape, and are covered in gold.

Catching a glimpse of a sun dog this morning, that bright spot to the left of sun. It's caused by the refraction of sunlight through ice crystals in the atmosphere. Here it's the ice crystals in the cirrus clouds. #sundog #NBC4NY
