Thread: Ppl tend to forget how pervasive the war on the poor is. They also make the mistake of viewing class warfare as a separate issue from Trump's rise. But politicians like him can't truly be challenged w/o challenging the system they use to maintain power in the first place.

Trump exacerbated inequality, but he didn't create it. It preceded him, and will be there long after him if we don't stop fighting individuals and start fighting the system as a whole instead. The 1% know the war on the poor's real, the rest of us should start acting like it too.

But why? It’s economic suicide, without poor people having enough to spend, the rich will eat each other. It’s societal suicide too, remember the guillotines, at some point, the poor rebel, and there’ll be too many to stop.

Ultimately it all comes down to fear. The rich fear the poor, the poor fear being even worse off than they are. If we're always fighting to survive/fighting amongst ourselves we won't have the energy to take the fight to the big companies where it needs to be. Distraction tactics

I think you’re overthinking plain old selfishness and greed. Everything is about increasing what their personal bank accounts and company bottom lines. *Keeping people poor* takes work.

Reading the rest of the thread takes a lot less work.

I'm interested in the source publication/ article for these graphs. Thanks.

The first three are from the Economic Policy Institute, the final is the Senate Budget Committee. The sources are mentioned in varying levels of detail at the bottom of the screencaps

The US has never existed without a permanent underclass. First it was African slaves and their descendants. Now it's poor black/brown and even some white people, especially immigrants, whether documented or not. The US has never existed without a permanent underclass.

The war on the poor seems to be a precursor to an “exterminist” society (one where a small number live off the fruits of automation while the poor are literally murdered) as shown in the book “four futures.”
-
Living in San Francisco it already looks a lot like an exterminist society.
